Im Jesús, I’m a bitter programmer. That's my day-job. I work and talk to computers all day, so I pretty much have to use apps to be able to meet guys, just like any other normal New Yorker. Like all New Yorkers, it’s been a really frustrating experience lol.
Tinder is especially frustrating because of the low return of investment. We have all had the experience of interacting with dead pixels — matches not returning any sent messages and having a bunch of dead-end signals. I’m trying to actively meet people, so I prefer to un-match people who just aren’t willing to put in the effort. Un-matching them through the UI takes a lot of manual effort, especially when you build hundreds and hundreds of matches over a long period of time. So, I wrote a pretty simple script that uses your Facebook login and password, logs into tinder and removes anyone from the list who hasn’t sent you a message or logged on past a certain date.
This past Valentine’s Day, I gave myself the gift of #delete #delete #delete and ran this script. I ended up going from 938 duds to like 75 people who actually responded. You could start doing some pretty advanced stuff with this, like deleting anyone who hasn’t responded to your last message within X days, or what have you, to really filter the signal. Grindr’s new API (the thing that controls access to their data) is being mined right now, as well as Scruff, so hopefully I can start making scripts for that too. Stay tuned to find out.
